The Freethinker presents three clerihews to mark the resignation of Boris Johnson as leader of the Conservative party, and agreement to quit as Prime Minister by the autumn. Invented by Edmund Clerihew Bentley, the clerihew is a frivolous poetic form hinging on a name. The third is in pig Latin, in tribute to our soon-to-be-ex-leader’s classical education.
I.
Alas, poor Bojo
Has lost his mojo;
Even the First Lady
Could not save him from Graham Brady.
II.
His latest lady
Could not help looking shady;
Now Mr Johnson
Must learn how to keep his pants on.
III.
Expulsus est Boris
(ut dixisset Horace);
Homerum recitavit
et Regnum Unitum spoliavit.
